Simple, Complex, Compound and Complex-Compound Sentences
Sentences can be simple, compound, complex or a combination.
A simple sentence has one independent clause and no dependent clauses: ‘I walked to the store.”
A compound sentence includes one independent clauses and another independent clause, but no dependent clauses: ‘I walked to the store and I bought groceries.’
A complex sentence has an independent clause à‘I walked to the store because I was out of food.’ ßand a dependent clause:
A complex compound sentence has more than one independent clause à ‘I walked to the store and I bought groceries because I was out of food. ß and one or more dependent clauses.
A simple sentence has one independent clause and no dependent clauses: ‘I walked to the store.”
